About the Basque Cultural Center

The San Francisco Basque Cultural Center is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation whose mission is to promote and preserve Basque Culture and identity in the San Francisco Bay Area. With over 600 members, the center hosts two major Basque festivals annually (in February and in August) and offers other events and gatherings every month. Most events are open to the public.

The center’s cornerstone feature is its thirty-six meter (118 feet) indoor hand ball court (Kantxa) which is used by members to play Basque pilota and hold festivals and celebrations.

The Basque Cultural Center also includes a restaurant and banquet facilities that are open to the public.

The Basque Country, which the Basques call Euskal Herria is located around the western Pyrenees, straddling the border of France and Spain. It includes seven historical provinces: Araba, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, Lapurdi, Nafarroa, Baxenabarre, and Xiberoa.
