Hosted by the Basque Educational Organization.

Bingen Mendizabal, film music composer, was commissioned to compose the soundtrack for a documentary on the writer Bernardo Atxaga, "Atxaga: euskaldunen barne (Atxaga: within the Basques)." For some time now, due to the economic crisis of 2008, Bingen had seen that he was hardly working in the film industry, and this new assignment brings him back to his memory and reminds him of his career in film and music from the 1980s to the present day in the Basque Country. The film reviews through different testimonies the artistic maelstrom that took place and all the great names that made their way in the cinematographic and musical world; names that put the Basque Country and its culture on the artistic map of a generation and that served as an example for the following generations. Throughout this review, Bingen Mendizabal reflects on what success really is, following one's own path.

Bingen Mendizabal played at the Basque Cultural Center on October 10th, 2004, alongside Mikel Urdangarin, Rafa Rueda, Kirmen Uribe & Elizabeth MacKlin. They performed a multimedia set of songs from the CD “Zaharregia, Txikiegia Agian” (Too Old, Too Small Maybe), whose lyrics are Kirmen Uribe poems. Click here to see a clip from this performance.

2022, directed by Aitor López de Aberásturi, 90 minutes, in Euskara and Spanish with English subtitles.

About the Director:

AITOR LÓPEZ DE ABERÁSTURI (VITORIA-GASTEIZ, 1985)

Aitor López de Aberásturi’s professional start was as an editor, beginning his career in documentary series broadcast by TVE (“Nexos”) or having worked on different projects for directors such as Paul Urkijo Alijo, David Pérez Sañudo or Juanma Bajo Ulloa.

From the beginning of his career, Aitor López de Aberásturi combined all these functions with his growing interest in developing his own projects with himself as director and scriptwriter, making short films and gradually specialising in the documentary genre. “Bidean jarraituz (following on the path)” is the first feature-length documentary to be released in commercial cinemas directed by Aitor López de Aberásturi, although he is the author of “Baby: la Naturaleza de filmar”, video exploitation documentary on the making of the film “Baby”, by Juanma Bajo Ulloa.

During all these years, Aitor López de Aberásturi has combined the production of commissioned audiovisuals with teaching, having been an editing tutor at ECPV:Film School of the Basque Country. While he begins the festival tour of “Bidean jarraituz (following on the path)”, he is finalising the post-production of his next project, the making of the film “Irati”, by Paul Urkijo Alijo.
